Climate neutral printing : a brighter shade of green

It’s good to see how customers buy in to the sustainable production methods we offer to green their supply chain.

As outlined in previous posts about paper sourcing, it starts with choosing paper from sources that adhere to responsible forest management principles, safeguarded by a FSC chain of custody certification. That paper can be made from recycled or virgin pulp but it needs a traceable ‘proof of origin’.

But that’s just a starting point. As many informed print buyers know, it is good to look into the printing process itself to find additional criteria for sustainable sourcing. Here again, the obvious way forward is to make sure your supplier is adhering to sound environmental management principles such as outlined in the international standards of ISO 14001 or EMAS. Ask questions about the energy sources in use at the production plant. Complement that with vegetable based inks (rather than petroleum based) and finish the job with processes that do not rely on unhealthy chemicals.

But how are you going to tell the world about your greener sourcing policies? That’s where climate neutral printing comes into play.
For a quick recap:

  1. We can measure the carbon footprint of every printed product we make
  2. Advice on alternative paper choices, production methods and innovative delivery strategies can reduce that footprint
  3. The remaining CO2 can be offset through voluntary carbon Gold Standard certificates

And last but not least : that’s how you can claim that your printed product is climate neutral. We have a dedicated logo and certificate number to prove it.

Just recently one of our multinational customers produced their first climate neutral EMEA newsletter in six languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Arabic)
The 100.000 readers of the magazine will have a tangible proof of how you can use the power of print without compromising the needs of future generations.
By entering the certificate number 305-53520-0610-1030 on our homepage anybody can verify that the emissions were offset using our favourite Gold Standard windmill project in New-Caledonia.
